The area surrounding Taichung City is rich in tourism and getaway opportunities ranging from windsurfing, to cultural sites, to hotspring getaways to stunning hiking trails. With beaches, a long history and fantastic mountains this region is one of Taiwan's most exciting regions. Most of these attractions lie within 30 minutes to 1 hour away by car.
The terrain of Taichung City is high in the north and low in the south, the western side of which though facing sea, yet is blocked by mountains, thus scarcely being the victim of typhoon attack. Renowned as the cleanest city of Taiwan, the streets and roads of Taichung City are neat, quiet and tastefully laid out. There are tourist centers inside the city area, like Zhongshan Park, Baojue Temple and Confucian Temple. They are the cultural center of Budhism of Taiwan, and over years the Budhist dharma gatherings are all held here. Always being known as a city of culture, Taichung has many colleges and universities of high education which are only secondary to Taipei City.
The rural refreshment "Sesame Leave Custard" of the City has its unique taste, while "Whole Heart Dry Bean Curd" is all the rage the whole island over. Also famous are "Sun Cake" for gifts and the superb light refreshments" Xin Fa Pavillion Icy Honey Bean" for relieving heat in summer.
Shopping If you love to shop, Taichung is heaven. There are enough options in this city to keep an inveterate shopper busy for months or years without visiting the same place twice!
From high end malls and shopping centres, to classy shopping streets the fashionable shopper is well taken care of here in Taichung. For the more cultural shopper, there are traditional markets offering jade, artworks, fish, flowers and more. Night markets are a budget shopper's dream, filled with all things imaginable - and some you'd never dream of!
For more specific shoppers, electronics bazaars and classy antiques are all on offer.
Climate & Temperature: Taiwan is an island located in the subtropical climate zone of Asia enjoying year round warm weather and ocean breezes. Due to the Central Mountain Range stretching from northern to southern Taiwan covering nearly two-third of the island, Taichung is fortunate to be safe from the hazards of typhoons visiting the island each year. With the average year round temperature of 23°C, it is no wonder that sunny Taichung is voted as one of the “Most Suitable City to Live In” in Taiwan.
